Jocelyn W. Cooper, LPC

Nice to meet you!

My name is Jocelyn Cooper and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and the founder of Esprit Therapeutics, LLC, a Virginia-based mental health practice specializing in immigration mental health evaluations throughout Virginia and Florida.

I came to this work because I personally understand what the immigration process demands. I have seen firsthand how exhausting and unforgiving it can be, and how much is at stake when something goes wrong. Every detail has to be right. One thing out of place and that could be the end of it. That experience shaped how seriously I approach this work.

How I Work

My approach is consistent regardless of the complexity of the case. I take the time to gather information carefully. I ask questions, listen closely, and verify my understanding before moving forward. If something is unclear, I will try a different approach. Getting the information right is the foundation of a useful report.

Interpretation support is available at no additional cost. Clear communication is a clinical requirement of this process. Some people do not speak English, or do not speak enough English to communicate clearly in a setting like this. Accurate information cannot be gathered without it, and it should not cost extra.

Background and Training

I completed formal training in immigration mental health evaluations through the Immigration Evaluation Training Center and participate in ongoing professional consultation as part of my continued practice. My work is grounded in trauma-informed, culturally responsive clinical practice, with a strong understanding of what immigration documentation requires.

I collaborate regularly with immigration attorneys and am familiar with the documentation expectations of immigration filings and court proceedings.

Role of the Evaluator

In immigration matters, I serve as an evaluator, not a treating therapist. My role is to gather relevant mental health information and organize it clearly for use in immigration filings. Professional boundaries are maintained throughout to ensure accuracy, consistency, and the integrity of the report.

This is not therapy. It is a clinical assessment completed for documentation purposes, separate from ongoing mental health care.
